The Pilates Method is a system of whole body physical conditioning that develops improved coordination, muscular balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion and kinaesthetic awareness. Pilates promotes movement that facilitates freedom through the spine and all joints, bringing about an improved muscular and skeletal balance. Learning to move efficiently without compression or excess effort allows for an enhanced physical functioning. The Pilates Method is a progressive movement system that begins with basic principles of movement and continues to develop as the student incorporates the various components of the system, from mat work through all pieces of Pilates equipment – Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels.

Pilates SessionThrough a process of moving with awareness, the student is educated about their own body and how it moves. In the Pilates Method the student is required to be consciously thinking through the execution of each movement so that the developing body awareness allows for a new coordination of the whole person. This new state of coordination allows for an improved functioning throughout daily activities as well as specialized pursuits such as athletics and performing arts.

The Pilates Method is appropriate for people of all levels of fitness from the deconditioned to the highly skilled; including those who may be in pain, recovering from injury or suffering from chronic conditions.
