January 6-9, 2014, Senior Alexander teacher in the Barstow Lineage, Martha Hansen Fertman will be visiting the Alexander Technique Teacher Training Program during the regular January training week.

As this will be Martha’s only visit to Toronto this year, in addition to leading the training during these four days she will also be offering a special evening workshop for trainees and  teachers of the Technique in Group Teaching from 7-9pm, Wednesday, January 8 for a fee of $40.

Students, trainees and graduates interested in attending the Wednesday evening workshop can register online.

Weekend Workshop with Senior Pilates Instructor

Schedule: 10am-1pm and 230-530pm each day.

This two day workshop will examine the structural and functional anatomy of the shoulder girdle. This includes Osteology; Myology; Muscular Slings and Synergies, Scapular Stabilization, Glenohumeral Differentiation; Scapulohumeral Rhythm. See how shoulder girdle function plays out on all forms of Pilates Equipment in classical and expanded Pilates exercise vocabulary.

Workshop Fee:  $500 ($450 before February 1)

Karen H. Carlson is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of client-based field experience and 15 years of training teachers. Certified in the Pilates Method by Pilates Elder Mary Bowen in 1987 and Master Certified by Pilates Elder Eve Gentry in 1991, Carlson’s graduate studies at Smith College focused on the scientific foundations of movement to aid the teaching of modern dance and ballet, using functional anatomy, biomechanics, kinesiology, and physics of movement. Ms. Carlson conducts advanced teacher-training programs from her studios in Philadelphia, PA and Medford, NJ (USA) and has given workshops and lecture-demonstrations at colleges, universities and private studios on the East Coast and Canada since 1995. Carlson is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, and the Somatics Society.

Alexander Technique Teachers Worldwide to Travel to Toronto Area

The first ever Canadian Annual General Meeting of Alexander Technique International will be held at Geneva Park, Sunday, October 27th to Thursday, October 31st, 2013, on the shores of scenic Lake Couchiching, adjacent to the town of Orillia, Ontario, just one and a half hours north of Toronto.

Alexander Technique International (ATI) is a world-wide organization of teachers, students and friends of the Alexander Technique, created to promote and advance the work begun by F. Matthias Alexander. ATI embraces the diversity of the international Alexander Technique community and is working to promote international dialogue.

It is a tradition of these General Meetings to hold a Free Community Class at the site, giving members of the local community an opportunity to be introduced to the Technique and experience its potentials.

This year, the Class will be held on Tuesday, October 29 from 7 -8pm; taught by Sinclair Studio Director, Susan Sinclair, with fellow international teachers in attendance.  All are welcome!
