Susan Sinclair is a dancer and movement educator who works with performers, teachers, and students to cultivate clarity, ease, and coordination through the Alexander Technique and the Pilates Method. Her work integrates decades of experience in movement education with a deep commitment to embodied learning.

Background & Training

Susan has taught the Pilates Method for 36 years and the Alexander Technique for 33 years. She has directed the Sinclair Studio Alexander Technique Teacher Training Program since 2003 and has trained Pilates teachers since 1994.

She certified as an Alexander Technique teacher with Bruce and Martha Fertman at the Alexander Foundation in Philadelphia and is a certified Teaching and Sponsoring Member of Alexander Technique International. Susan is a graduate of the dance programs at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and the School of the Toronto Dance Theatre, and completed Pilates apprenticeships with Moira Stott in Toronto and Karen Carlson in Philadelphia.

Teaching & Influences

Susan’s teaching is informed by ongoing studies in improvisation, Contact Improvisation, Tai Chi, Aikido, Developmental Movement, and the Feldenkrais Method. These influences shape an integrative approach that supports efficiency, responsiveness, and expressive movement.

Faculty & International Teaching

Susan is on faculty at the Alexander Technique Tokyo School and the Houston School for the Alexander Technique. She is also a visiting teacher Korea Alexander Technique International School in Seoul, South Korea. Susan has taught in teacher training programs in USA, Japan, South Korea and Germany, and has presented her work at the 8th and 9th International Congresses of the Alexander Technique in Lugano, Switzerland, as well as at Alexander Technique International conferences worldwide. She regularly teaches post-graduate workshops throughout Japan, Europe, Canada, and the United States. 

Current Work

Susan maintains a private practice in Toronto and directs her Alexander Technique Teacher Training Program. She has taught at the University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario, the Gestalt Institute of Toronto, and has worked with actors at Humber College, Equity Showcase Theatre, and the Centre for Indigenous Theatre. She is currently a guest teacher at the Toronto Dance Theatre.
